The Red Kite ESU was formed in 2016 to allow Scouts at 1st Halton (RAF) to stay in scouting when they reached the age of 14 while still being attached to the Group.
The Explorer section differs from the others in scouting in that the programme and activities are planned and organised by the members themselves with leaders only providing a watchful eye to keep everyone safe and to help the Explorers realise their plans. As a result a full and exciting programme of activities from canoeing to ice skating are regularly undertaken.
A number of the unit members are part of the Young Leader Programme and help as assistant leaders in the other sections. This is not only great fun. it counts as a public service for awards such as Duke of Edinburgh.
The unit is open to any 14 to 18 year old. Most of our members are former Scouts but this is not a necessary qualification. The only qualifications required are enthusiasm, a desire to make friends and a will to have fun undertaking adventurous activities.
